Let’s face it, families with two working parents will undoubtedly feel stress on many different levels. It takes a super Mom and super Dad to be able to pull it off well. Many Moms (and some Dads) are looking for alternatives. They would like for one parent to have the flexibility of working at home and still have some extra income. The parent who works from home will have the flexibility to attend to the needs of the children while still feeling fulfilled and earning income for the family.

In the past, the idea of working from home was very limited. The opportunities were often scams, where the business wanted the Mom to invest in the basic materials and then see what they could make of the them. The only legitimate work at home job I had ever heard of was typing or stuffing envelopes. These days, with computers, word processing and even machines that stuff letters in envelopes, that opportunity has completely dried up.

However, don’t despair. Many new opportunities for working from home have emerged with the arrival of the internet. It’s still true, however, that people need to look out for scams. The truth is that it takes time and effort to earn money no matter how you go about it.

The internet is flooded with marketing. Those of us who surf the net regularly sometimes ignore much of it. When the ads are placed sparingly and are relevant to the content, they can earn money much like television commercials earn money for the networks. You can view the television news and network shows for free. The advertising exists. You have the option of watching the ads or leaving the room during commercial time.

It can work much the same way with internet marketing. You can create a site with information that people want, much like television provides new and network shows. You can then add a reasonable amount of advertising to the page. These ads can generate income to compensate the web designer for there efforts in providing the content for the public. Most Moms who would like to work from home don’t have the skills necessary to design their own website from scratch. The very thought if it would be enough to send them back to the computer to update their resume.

In addition to that, they think they are not enough of an expert to provide information that other people would want to read. It’s just like what your teacher told you in school; write about what you know. Some of the things Moms know best are their children and their communities. Other parents are surfing the internet every day, looking for soccer teams, ice skating lessons, archery instruction or martial arts in their local community. Sometimes they enroll their Children in classes that are ten to fifteen miles from home because they are not aware of a class that is available right in their own neighborhood.

One such Mom (no, not the writer of this article) created her own website and has now packaged it to make it easier for other Moms to work from home. Kids Activities Sites is an opportunity for Moms (or Dads, or Grandparents) to start their own business helping other parents find summer camps, music lessons, and sporting leagues right in their own neighborhood. The Mom who started San Diego Kids Activities and Orange County Kids Activities now realizes that this can be used as a model, making it easy for almost anyone who is computer literate to have their own internet site. It fills a need in the community and allows Moms, Dads and Grandparents to work from home.

Janice Smith is a grandmother who retired early and now enjoys working from home. She has created Los Angeles Kids Activities and Phoenix Kids Activities. She finds the work enjoyable and enjoys the additional income.
